We camped in the desert of southern California at the Mojave National Preserve which is located on the California and Nevada border not too far from Las Vegas. The area is incredibly dry and home to some impressive rock formations which we were able to climb on a morning hike. At our campsite, the sunset and night stars were amazing as we were far from any civilization and had a clear night and sky full of stars.
While there is not as much cactus as you would find at Joshua Tree the area does have a large number of these barrel cactus that would be better off not touching.
We found a loop trail that was about 3 miles long which was a lot of fun and included built in rings which made it easy to climb some of these steep rock formations.
The views were impressive as we had a beautiful cool winter morning for our hike. If you are traveling in Southern California or heading to Las Vegas take the time to visit the California desert.
