Pawnee National Grassland

Sharing is Caring

Meredith and I headed out from Fort Collins, Colorado towards Laramie, Wyoming before detouring straight east across Highway 80 to Sidney, Nebraska. On our return back to Fort Collins we detoured through northeast Colorado through the aptly named Pawnee National Grassland. Talk about some wide open spaces. The grassland is roughly 30 x 60 square miles or nearly 200,000 acres that are virtually uninhabited by mankind.

There is hiking and camping in the park although we didn\’t have time to stop on this short day trip. The area doesn\’t look too different than parts of North Texas where we live with buffalo grass and blue stem being the main grasses growing on the prairie.

The day was a mixture of sun and clouds and while we didn\’t get rained on you could see massive clouds bringing down rain in the distance. Another great day exploring a place off the beaten path.
