Texas Hill Country Wines

Sharing is Caring

Annette and I don\’t pretend to be wine connoisseurs but we do enjoy a good glass of wine now and then. We were excited about a short trip we made to the Texas Hill Country recently but didn\’t know what to expect when trying some of the local vineyards. My last taste of Texas wines was back in the nineties at \”Grapefest\” in Grapevine, TX and, quite frankly the experience was one that did not motivate me to seek out something local again. I gravitated to California wines from Napa and Sonoma county and every once in a while obtain my favorite red wine which is the Grande Reserve from Domaine De Mourchon which is located in Southern France and operated by a friend of mine named Walter McKinlay (hope you like that impressive name dropping).

We were pleasantly surprised during the weekend we spent in the Hill Country and found several great tasting wines worth obtaining. The photo above was taken from a great vineyard named Pedernales Cellers which is pretty close to Fredericksburg – Great wines and a great view while sitting under magnificent live oak trees. We hit several places but thought this one and Becker Vineyards were our favorites. The Hill Country is really wonderful, especially if you are with good friends who you enjoy spending time with. Find yourself a 3 day weekend and get down there to explore.
